My work involves the use of many techniques in clay such as sculpture and painting.  I enjoy projects that are small and highly detailed, as well as those on a large scale. I strive to create works of art that tell a story, speak to an audience and involve the viewer in an emotional experience that will be memorable and meaningful. Most of all, I want to make timeless works of art that convey beauty, hope and deep connection in a world where those elements are often so lacking. The execution of my ideas into physical form is done with great love and precise attention to detail at every stage. Much of my art is highly tactile and provides the viewer the experience of touch as well as sight.

The processes involved in creating my pieces – drawing and sketching, preparing the raw clay, relief carving, the painting of images, and finally the firing of the work… is a challenging, but wonderful journey. My personal work is stylized through the use of distortion and departure from traditional perspective. Some of my forms are hand-built and are created specifically for particular images. The small bowls I make, created on the potter’s wheel, are a personal favorite for me. The protected inner surface provides a canvas for images from my dreams, or intricate paintings depicting elements of the natural world.
