When someone stands in front of a Hauck collage they often think it is paint, and only later realize it is all paper. Hauck’s collages have a surface integrity and coherence that transcends the individual tiny pieces it contains so the viewer is powerfully struck first by the image, not by -here is a piece of cigarette wrapper, there some other retrieved discard. Hauck’s work deals with the human condition, the forms and pressures of Being, the spirit resonance, and life movement (an ancient principle of chinese painting).
